:damphyr: Leviathan, its sequel Behemoth, and the trilogy-finisher Goliath (said to be appearing in summer 2011?!), are a series of books by the relatively famous author Scott Westerfeld.

Set in an alternate past, with many similarities as well as differences. The time period is the brink of World War I. Clankers command huge machines, built from iron and roaring engines, while Darwinists have fabricated a myriad of creatures from the threads of life themselves.

Aleksandar Ferdinand, son of the Clanker Austro-Hungarian archduke Franz Ferdinand, is newly orphaned and on the run from the Germans and his own country.

Deryn Sharp, your average commoner of the British Empire, loves flying and adventure but hates the stuffy life expected of her, so she disguises herself as a boy and joins the military.

Their paths cross on the huge airship Leviathan, traveling to Istanbul...and beyond.

:damphyr: A richly detailed world, illustrated by our own Keithwormwood, awaits those readers who venture into Leviathan.
